Welcome to the homepage of ‘The Legionnaires’ Sevens Rugby team

With the 2009 sevens season not far away, ‘The Legionnaires’ are looking forward to competing in their first full season of tournaments. Formed in May 2008, ‘The Legionnaires’ have made remarkable progress to date and now have a very talented squad of players at their disposal. These players can be seen by clicking here or the ‘Players’ link on the left.

Very shortly, ‘The Legionnaires’ will be announcing their tournament fixtures for the summer season. Although ‘The Legionnaires’ are already committed to a number of tournaments, we always like to hear from new events, so if you are the organiser of a tournament or know someone who is, please contact us by using the ‘Contact Us’ link on the left. Likewise, any prospective player who would be interested in playing for ‘The Legionnaires’ can submit a brief rugby CV in the same way.

In the dark winter months, ‘The Legionnaires’ have all been hibernating, so the website has been neglected to a certain extent. From now, until the end of the ‘traditional’ sevens season in September, site visitors will be able to keep up to date will all Legionnaire activity by clicking the ‘Latest News’ section. In addition, ‘The Legionnaires’ are delighted to announce that Nick Rudling will be continuing in his role as 'Honorary Team Photographer' so expect more action photos to appear in the ‘Gallery’ over the coming months.

It is hoped, that ‘The Legionnaires’ will be embarking to one of the established European tournaments on their first foreign tour this summer. At the moment, plans for such a tour are very much at the early stages and will have to be evaluated as the summer progresses and the financial situation worsens! Keep checking back to this site for details.

‘The Legionnaires’ are proud to support 7in7 and it's associated charities

In 2003, the legendary adventurer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, completed the extraordinary task of finishing seven marathons on seven different continents in seven days. This April, Mark Gardner and Jarlath O'Hara will be hoping to harness the same competitive spirit, running seven different marathons in a week for charity.

Commencing in the USA in St. Louis, Missouri, they then head to Boston to run the world's oldest marathon before crossing back across the pond for a series of UK events. The prestigious London Marathon will provide a fitting final leg on Sunday 26th April, followed by a party to celebrate the feat in a central London venue. Please visit 7in7 for more information by clicking the banner below.

The ‘first’ Legionnaires

The ‘first’ Legionnaires that beat the RAF at the Newquay 7’s in July 2008 to qualify for the main competition quarter finals. On their way to the quarter finals, the team beat GC RFC but lost to Skinners Freeloaders, who were the organisers’ sponsored “ringer” team with current Wasp and England international James Haskell in their ranks. The Legionnaires went down bravely to Opportunity Rugby in the quarter final knowing that they could have taken victory. More success is expected of The Legionnaires in the 2009 season.
